Serai
The Foundation

The Serai Project is open integration infrastructure for hospitality, built around the Linked Commons Model — a canonical schema every certified connector normalizes to over a shared event backbone. It was founded by Niji Labs, which operates as the project's first certified implementer. At a published maturity gate, governance transfers to the Serai Foundation, an independent vendor-neutral body — so the industry adopts a commons, not a vendor.

The category

A commons you keep — not a hub you rent.

A hub you rent
  • The data model belongs to the vendor — closed and undocumented outside.
  • Only that vendor can run, extend, or service the hub.
  • Leaving means re-integrating everything — the lock-in moved to the middle.
A commons you keep
  • The Linked Commons Model is documented, versioned, and will be open-sourced.
  • Any certified integrator will be able to deploy and service the core — the hotel chooses who.
  • Data and mappings export as-is, in open formats.
The maturity gate

What the Foundation will be — and when.

At the published maturity gate, governance of the Serai Project — including the Linked Commons Model and the certification program — transfers to the Serai Foundation, an independent, vendor-neutral body.

At the gate

Apache-2.0 release of the versioned LCM spec, the connector engine, and the connectors — and transfer to the Serai Foundation, an independent, vendor-neutral body, under a charter drafted and public before the gate is reached.

The path

Build, grow, open and transfer.

Build

Now — Niji Labs develops and deploys to pilot properties.

Grow

Prove in production, scale coverage toward the gate.

Open & transfer

Apache-2.0 release of the versioned LCM spec, the connector engine, and the connectors; governance and IP transfer under a charter drafted and public before the gate is reached.

Ten principles

Stated without elaboration.

  1. De-risk by design
  2. Your data, your process
  3. Open by commitment
  4. Neutral by default
  5. One shared language at the core
  6. Complexity at the edges
  7. Configuration, not code
  8. Nothing hidden
  9. No single point of failure
  10. As little as possible — and the foundation to build on

Serai is not Niji Labs' product; Niji Labs is Serai's first certified implementer.
